PCORI
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is an independent, nonprofit research funding organization that funds patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) and research-related awards. PCORI was first authorized in 2010 for a period of 10 years through the Affordable Care Act. In 2019, PCORI was reauthorized until 2029 with three key research focus areas: intellectual and developmental disabilities, maternal morbidity and mortality, and rare diseases.
Since 2019, Co-Chairs Adams and Underwood have met with PCORI leadership to develop PCORI's maternal mortality research agenda and keep Members of the Black Maternal Health Caucus updated on PCORI's research advancements. As of June 2024, PCORI has awarded $293 million to conduct comparative clinical effectiveness research studies and related projects to address maternal mortality.
